BJP team to assess situation

Itanagar: A five-member central BJP study team will visit Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday to assess the reported fluctuations of water levels of the Siang River in the state.

The team was constituted by party’s national president Nitin Gadkari, according to BJP state unit general secretary Tai Tagak here on Saturday.

The team will comprise former Lok Sabha MP and national BJP general secretary Tapir Gao and the former Union Minister and national BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy (MP), Arvind N Dave (MP), water resource expert Shreeram Vedire and captain Mandendra Singh, Tagak informed.

The team would arrive at Pasighat in East Siang district and visit the neighbouring Assam.

It would meet and interact with the district administration, leaders of civil society organisations, leaders of local farmers, community leaders, local intellectuals, leaders of student organisations and other institutions during their three day visit in Arunachal and Assam, Tagak said.

Besides, the team would meet and interact with the Brahmaputra Board authorities also and take stock of the ground situations.

The study report would be submitted to the party’s national president and the findings there from would be raised in the parliament by the party, Tagak addem.

Arunachal Pradesh suspects that diversion of the river in its upper reaches in China could be the reason for the drying up downstream.

The State is seeking facts from the Centre regarding the drying up of the river Siang, which originates in Tibet and is one of the main tributaries of the Brahmaputra. (Agencies)
