NONGPOH: With few weeks left for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) polls, the United Democratic Party has suffered a major blow after leaders from the Umroi Circle decided to dissolve the party due to issues with the central leadership.
This development came to light during the central executive meeting of the UDP Umroi circle at Khapmara Bhoirymbong on Monday.
The meeting was attended by party president Mangkara Pathaw, vice president Shngainlang Thangkhiew, general secretary Thomas Lyngdoh and office bearers of the Umroi circle.
According to the party leaders, the decision to dissolve the party was taken because of the fact that the central leadership had sidelined them and did not take into account their views on the party’s ticket from Umroi Constituency for the upcoming council polls.
It may be mentioned that the central leadership of the UDP had earlier given a ticket to former NPP leader from Umroi FD Ramsiej to contest for the upcoming council polls from Umroi constituency.
During the meeting, the UDP leaders also wondered as to how the central leadership allotted the ticket to Ramsiej for the council polls despite his anti-party activities during the last Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the former UDP leaders joined the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and were given a warm welcome by Umroi MDC Arbinus Lyngdoh.
