Eight coal trucks seized in two days

SHILLONG: Neither a mine tragedy nor a Supreme Court order can stop illegal transportation of coal in the state as police have once again seized several trucks from across Meghalaya in the last few days.
On February 6, Resubelpara police detected six trucks, all Assam registered, and two trucks with A/F (applied for) number plates driven by Md Islam Uddin (26), Md Aftar Hussain (20), Md. Ariful Hoque (33), Md. Abul Bakkar Sidik (23), Md. Aminul Islam (24) and Sajith R Marak (25), respectively, while illegally transporting coal at Thapa Darengchi in North Garo Hills.
Police apprehended the accused persons and seized the vehicles.
On the same day, police detected one Tata Ace pick-up (without number plate) driven by one Umesh Rabha (34), while illegally transporting coal at Kentra village in the same district.

On February 8, acting on a tip off, police rushed to Pyndengrei, Nongstoin, in West Khasi Hills, and detected one truck (ML-06-8756) driven by Andreas Thyrniang (39) while illegally transporting coal. Police apprehended the accused and seized the truck.
