NEW DELHI: It is a well known fact that wild elephants usually raid villages and crop fields. In this case, however, a full grown tusker has created quite a stir after raiding the community kitchen of paramilitary forces posted along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
The hungry elephant took the soldiers by surprise when it peeped through a window and tried to steal their food. The incident was caught on camera and showed men in the kitchen making bread while the cheeky elephant stuck its head through the makeshift window in an attempt to snatch the food with its trunk.
The men could be heard politely asking the elephant to go away and some even cracked a joke that the wall would cave in if the elephant tried to push through.
But the giant kept reaching out with its long trunk and ignored the men completely. After being refused a meal, the elephant picked up a broom that was lying on the floor and pulled it out of the window before overturning a kitchen cart laden with spices.
Commenting on the incident, an officer said that a few soldiers had been leaving food outside the camp and the elephant had gotten used to being fed. The officer said that no one was harmed during the incident and that the elephant went away after sometime.
