SHILLONG: The North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) has voiced its concern regarding the new 13-point roster and its impact on SC, ST and OBC teachers.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, NEHUTA president Xavier Mao said: “With the 13-point roster, if faculty members are few, then ST and SC may not get any posts at all. Thereby, SC/ST and OBC will be put at a great disadvantage.”
He added that the Central government should pass a new ordinance thereby reverting back to the old model in which the specific quota for the SC/ST and OBC will be fixed thereby retaining their share/ quota.
NEHUTA general secretary Prasenjit Biswas said: “We are pushing the 13-point roster at the national level. This University is located in a Sixth Schedule area where there are lots of STs Teachers. This particular judgment is going against the very interest of the ST of Meghalaya and the North Eastern Region.”
“We are demanding very strongly that they should bring an ordinance which will protect the quota of the ST, SC and OBC,” he added.
Mao said that the Supreme Court of India had given its judgment in upholding the Allahabad High Court judgment for reservation for ST, SC and OBC.
“Earlier, it was at the University level but with the recent Supreme Court Judgment, the reservation will be at the department level.”
“This sort of reservation for department level is to follow the 13 point roster,” he said.
