SHILLONG: Police registered a criminal case on Thursday for the assault of people and vandalism at RR Colony and Rynjah market areas.
Three people were injured and shops vandalised during the victory march carried out by the KSU activists after the CAB was not taken up in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, spoke to DGP Chandranathan on the need to have a high level probe into the incident.
However, a senior police official said once the case is registered, there will be a proper probe.
Soon after the incident, the East Khasi Hills police had warned the activists, but no arrest has been made.
According to the police, the KSU did not take any permission to carry out the ‘peaceful’ victory march which later turned violent.
Agnes condemns assault
There was no condemnation from any quarters except CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing, who said the police machinery is duty-bound to protect the lives and property of all sections of people.
“There should be a proper inquiry into the matter and those involved should be arrested”, she said.
