SHILLONG: Congress MLA from Laitumkhrah Ampareen Lyngdoh has taken strong exception to change the nomenclature of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council to Khasi Hill Autonomous Territorial Council (KHATC).
Addressing reporters here on Friday, she said, “We will not allow the Centre to dictate the district councils.”
She echoed the sentiments of her husband, Congress candidate for the Council elections from Laitumkhrah, Fantin Joseph Lakadong who said the MDCs should not be happy with funding from the Center only.
On the other hand, Lyngdoh said her husband’s public meeting will start from Saturday and maintained he is not “a dummy candidate.”
Lakadong said he has been preparing for the elections for the last 8 months and has expressed concern on the lack of water supply, road connectivity, issues of farmers, to fight for the inclusion of Khasi in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
