Wahingdoh beat Kalighat for 1st win

 SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC registered its first victory in the 2nd Division I-League Final Round whe it defeated Kalighat FC from Kolkata by a solitary goal in a match played at Siliguri on Monday.

The winner was scored by defender Kareem Omolaja Nurrain via penalty in the fifth minute of the match.

With this victory, RWFC now have four points from two matches. It may be mentioned that in the first match, the Shillong side was held to a 1-1 draw by Vasco SC.

Earlier, Wahingdoh dominated the proceedings from the word go and scored in the fifth minute after a penalty ws awarded when star striker Chencho was brought down inside the box. Kareem showed his calm and confidently converted the penalty to put the Royals ahead.

Crossing over, Wahingdoh continued its dominance but a series of missed oppotunities robbed it of a win by a bigger margin.

When contacted, RWFC coach Carlton Chapman expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the match.

“I would like my boys to improve on the conversion rate in the coming matches since at present we are missing on many scoring opportunities,” Chapman said.

RWFC would take on ONGC in their next match on March 16.
