SHILLONG: Though CLP leader, Mukul Sangma has rejected the idea of contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Tura constituency, Senior Congress leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh has thrown her weight behind Mukul Sangma terming him as the as number one batsman for Congress who can win the Tura seat for Congress.
Ampareen Lyngdoh on Friday said that everyone was looking at Mukul Sangma for the simple reason that he was the most winnable candidate to win Tura seat
“We have a lot batsmen within the party but the number one batsmen would be Dr Mukul Sangma,” she said while adding that Congress party has a whole lot of leaders and so many of them in the party as MLAs has gained tremendous experience over the year,
According to Lyngdoh, if the CLP leader agrees to contest the election, it would be a dream come true for all the Congressmen in the state and the Congress party needs to regain the seat of Tura.
“We should win the seat back from Tura. I think it would be a worthwhile sacrifice,” she added.
When asked about Mukul Sangma’s rejection to the idea of contesting the Lok Sabha polls, she said that most of the Congressmen are looking at the number one batsman and whether he will contest the election or not will be seen later and his decision will be final and the party will respect his decision
“Whether or not he contest the election, he is still a CLP leader and in the crucial elections of 2019, every seat count and we need to send the number batsmen to the field if we want to hit many wickets,” Lyngdoh said.
Mukul Sangma’s name is being proposed as one of the candidates from Tura seat while two other leaders including Zenith Sangma and Deborah Marak too have applied for the party ticket to contest the election from Tura constituency
When asked about the reports that sitting Congress MP from Shillong Vincent Pala may contest the election from NPP, she said that she was witness to an AICC meeting where Pala was present and he had held allegiance to the party.
