SHILLONG: As campaigning for the district council elections picks up momentum, the NPP is more than confident to be at the helm of affairs, be it by winning an absolute majority or being a party to its allies in forming the executive council.
State NPP president WR Kharlukhi said the fight is simply between the UDP and the NPP and they are trying their best to get an absolute majority. But even if they do not get absolute majority MDA will rule in both JHADC and KHADC.
Talking about the prospects of NPP, Kharlukhi said he has been personally doing rounds of both Jaintia and Khasi Hills and the party has good prospects in both Jaintia and Khasi Hills.
Hitting out at the Congress, Kharlukhi said, “The Congress is out of the realm as they could not even fill candidates in the six to seven constituencies.”
Meanwhile, Fantin J Lakadong, husband of former Cabinet minister and East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh, who contesting the election for the first time said the autonomous district councils in Meghalaya do require anti-defection law to ensure stability.
He also said that if elected he would go through all the bills which have been passed by the KHADC and are pending for approval.
Stating that poverty is one of the major challenges in his constituency, he also said he would raise the issues of the farmers as well who have been suffering.
