NEW DELHI: Congress President Rahul Gandhi has called a meeting of the reconstituted North East Co-ordination Congress Committee (NECCC) in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The meeting after a long gap assumes significance since the Congress has lost power in all the states in the region, including Meghalaya, and lastly Mizoram. At one point of time the party was ruling in all the eight states.
Earlier, the NECCC was reconstituted with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as its patron and former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma as its chairman. Singh is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam.
The meeting will be presided over by Rahul and all members and special invitees will participate. Former Congress chief ministers of northeastern states are advisors to the panel while all PCC presidents, CLP leaders and Congress MPs and former MPs from the region will be its members.
AICC general secretaries and in-charge of north eastern states along with attached secretaries are special invitees to the committee.
Vincent H Pala and Wansuk Syiem will also attend the meeting.
