SHILLONG: Former Cabinet Minister and Senior Congress leader, Ronnie V Lyngdoh has taken a jibe at the regional parties over the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill and accused them of not taking a stand on the contentious Bill which is a threat to the local tribes of Meghalaya.
Lyngdoh said that the District Councils were created for the protection and interest of the local tribes of Meghalaya but the idea of issuing work permit to Bangladeshi citizens and CAB were just contrary to the Sixth Scheduled
The statement came from Lyngdoh a day after the UDP senior leader, Allantry Dkhar had accused the Congress of running a misinformation campaign
He said that the party was going to the people and explaining to them that they had only two choices now which is Congress and BJP since all the regional parties in Meghalaya were just shadows and images of the BJP.
“ There is no doubt about it. Before elections, they denied having links with BJP but everything became crystal clear after the elections,” Lyngdoh said.
Stating that the regional parties in the state are the agents of BJP, he added that when the issue of CAB was raked up, none of the regional parties and their MLAs here took a stand like AGP in Assam where they dared to come out of the BJP-led alliance and even their ministers resigned.
“The regional parties here only did a lip service and they clinked onto to power. They should remember that deeds speak louder than words ,” he said while adding that the people of Meghalaya will soon give a befitting reply to the regional parties of Meghalaya.
