NONGSTOIN: A team of Khasi Student Union and Western People Movement (WPM) led by John Milton Wahlang president KSU Nongsoin Circle stopped the electrical wiring works undertaken at the office of DRDA New Office complex Nongstoin on Wednesday.

The joint team after receiving complaint through a highly placed source that the office of MeECL Nongstoin without calling an official tender order through authorized contractors has engaged some of its casual workers to do the electrical works at the new DRDA office building conducted a spot inquiry.

One of the casual workers on anonymity told the inspection team that they were given an extra burden work without extra payment. He also informed that they have been engaged by the MeECL officials during the past one week and they have no time to rectify any electrical fault in other localities.

The team could not meet the Engineer as he was not available. However, the SDO issued an order to stop the electrical works with immediate effect.John Milton Wahlang also told media that they will enquire from the Engineer regarding the work taken by the MeECL at Nongstoin.
