SHILLONG: Three friends are on a voyage to India as they are preparing to cover the country’s northeast with northern India in an auto-rickshaw.
The trio will start their journey from Shillong and will cover a distance of 3,500 towards north in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan where they will converge.
The trio’s team MIA (Missing in Asia) led by Michael Schewtschuk, Chris Senior and James Ignaciuk, will take the marathon challenge coming September in a 50cc auto-rickshaw to raise fund for Cancer Research UK and Frank Water – which provides clean water in the third world countries.
The three friends are from England – Birkenshaw, Cambridge and Cleckheaton, respectively.
Their India fund raising visit will be in line with their already begun fund raising back in UK and this will be followed by a special event slated for March at St Paul’s Church, London which will showcase live music with a bar and disco.
Talking to Indian media persons in England the trio said that they hope to raise among them around £5,000 and so far they have been doing well with the fund raiser.
The trio’s journey which will start from Shillong – which was made capital of this region of the British Administration then – is going to be exploratory as they said that rough terrains, forests, cities, deserts and mountains will be covered and that too without any map but just by finding their way out. They plan to cover the distance by two weeks but have a month time in hand to complete the task.The confident trio however is looking forward to this daunting task of covering the distance in an auto-rickshaw which runs at a top speed of 35mph.
The trio is looking forward to the event and hopes the people will care for their cause and help them in their effort.
