Second body retrieved from Ksan mine

JOWAI: Rescuers of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indian Navy in a joint operation retrieved the body of a trapped miner in the coal pit at Ksan in East Jaintia Hills on Wednesday. It was the second body of a miner to be retrieved out of the five bodies detected so far.
The joint operation was started at 1 pm and the body of the unidentified trapped miner could be pulled out from the main shaft of Ksan rat hole mine.
A team comprising five persons – four from NDRF and one from Navy — went down into the main shaft.
Inflatable boat, body bag and other equipment of NDRF were used during this operation besides taking all safety measures, according to a statement issued by the authorities here.
All the hard work and dedicated effort put in by the team resulted in recovery of the body from a depth of 200 feet inside the rat hole with the help of ROV, the statement added.
The packed body was pulled out from the shaft and handed over to the Officer-in- Charge of Saipung police station in presence of officials of civil administration of East Jaintia Hills district.
The body was further dispatched to the civil hospital at Khliehriat for post mortem and further necessary action.
Meanwhile, operation is on to retrieve another body of trapped miner.
