SHILLONG: Senior NCP leader and Tura legislator, Purno A Sangma has demanded constitution of a House Committee to inquire into the various irregularities in the State PHE department.
Participating in the debate on the Governor’s Address in the Assembly on Wednesday, Sangma criticized the PHE department for the acute water crisis in Tura.
Recalling the scams which were unearthed in the department few years back, Sangma claimed that if a new inquiry is conducted many more similar scams would be exposed. He mentioned that six pumping machines were installed in Tura way back in 1982 out of which only one machine is currently operational.
“I have to spend Rs 3000 on water every day. Imagine the plight of a common man,” Sangma added.
