SHILLONG: A man travelling by bus from Himachal Pradesh to New Delhi was arrested by police after passengers complained that his stinky socks had turned what would have been a pleasant journey into a hellish one.
This incident happened back in December 2017.
Over a year later, a similar incident took place here in the city inside a red maxi taxi last week although this time, the matter did not end up in the police station.
The red maxi taxi of the SPTS service was plying between Motphran and Happy Valley when a man embarked it at its origin.
The pungent smell emanating from the man resulted in passengers having to cover their noses with their shawls, handkerchiefs, sweaters, jackets, mufflers and what-have-you.
Fellow passengers in the Himachal Pradesh – New Delhi bus had protested against the accused passenger and even asked him to throw the socks out of the window. There was a heated confrontation as well, since the accused had threatened other passengers which ultimately forced the driver to stop the bus at the nearest police station.
But nothing similar took place here in Shillong except for some uncomfortable gestures and looks on the faces of the passengers.
A lady passenger who was too disgusted with the ordeal of sitting through the entire uncomfortable journey, disembarked halfway.
