SHILLONG: Joining the bandwagon of other Congress leaders who want CLP leader Mukul Sangma to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Tura constituency, Shillong MP, Vincent Pala, has asserted that the former chief minister would have to sacrifice and work for the party if the High Command asks him to enter the fray.
Speaking to newsmen here recently, Pala said that if Mukul Sangma contests the elections, he has a better chance to win from Tura while not forgetting to add that each and every seat is important for the Congress.
“I am in agreement with party workers and leaders who are in favour of Mukul Sangma for the Tura seat,” he said.
According to Pala, the former Chief Minister may not want to contest the elections, but he would have to sacrifice and work for the party if the High Command asks him to.
“NPP is strong there, but if Mukul Sangma contests, we have a better chance to win,” he said.
Pala also informed that he has personally told the High Command and AICC senior leader Luizinho Faleiro that Mukul Sangma stands a better chance in Tura. As for his own chances of contesting from Shillong, Pala said the party was yet to finalise candidates at the state level and so far has not recommended anybody’s name. He said he would start working once the party approves his name since there may be others who might want to contest from Shillong.
He also said that he has tried his best to serve the people of the constituency for the last two terms and is confident that he would win the elections for the third consecutive term.
Though most of the party leaders want Mukul Sangma to contest the Lok Saba elections, the Opposition leader has already declined saying he would stick to state politics.
