SHILLONG: Senior NCP legislator Purno A Sangma has urged the government to take steps against escalation of cost of pending projects.

Raising the issue of delay in completion of projects with reference to ITI building at Baghmara, South Garo Hills, during Question Hour in the Assembly on Friday, Sangma said “The State has always been facing this problem delay in completion of any project which leads to escalation of cost”.

Blaming contractors for inordinate delay, former Lok Sabha Speaker said “The primary objective of the contractors is to get the maximum benefits”.

He admitted that during his chief ministership the problem was brought to his notice but could take any corrective measure.

Terming it as a ‘good suggestion’, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Labour department Rowell Lyngdoh in his reply said the Government would look into this matter.

Earlier, Baghmara NCP legislator Satto R Marak raised a question on the status of the construction of ITI building in his district. Lyngdoh said completion of the project might take some time duo to unavailability of electricity in the area.
