SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said the MDA would discuss the matter of common candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat with at least three allies insisting on their own candidates.
Speaking to reporters here, he said, “We will discuss and we have made it clear that we are open to discussion, we will see how things go and will take a decision at the right time.”
The picture for common candidate is still hazy with MDA allies such as United Democratic Party (UDP), People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) keen to contest from the seat.
The UDP was the first to name its general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh, as the common candidate.
HSPDP has also named its party general secretary, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, as the common candidate.
UDP and HSPDP also comprise the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA).
The BJP, which is another ally in the MDA government, has preferred to go solo in the Lok Sabha polls in both Tura and Shillong.
