SHILLONG: The Opposition Congress in the state is confident that the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) will not be able sustain itself for long.
The party’s bold assertion comes at a time when the NPP is looking to challenge it and other national parties like BJP in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the North East.
It may be mentioned that the NPP is planning to contest all the 25 Lok Sabha seats on offer in the region.
Attacking the NPP, Congress spokesman and MLA Zenith Sangma said that the party is in power for the first time and hence excited, but they cannot go on for long and it will be known very soon.
He said that NPP National President and Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, claims that the party is ruling in many states, but the fact is it is just part of the ruling coalition in Manipur.
Zenith said that Conrad feels that he has become undisputed overnight, a ‘mahapurush,’ but it won’t be for long.
The NPP is now exploring opportunities in different constituencies and states of the region to contest the elections.
NPP state president WR Kharlukhi has also expressed confidence that they are here to give the national parties a fight to remember and that the Congress would be wiped out, at least in Meghalaya.
