Process to set up entry, exit points in progress: Meghalaya Governor

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy has said the process of setting up facilitation centers at various entry and exit points to contain influx is in progress.

Addressing the first day of the Budget session of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Friday, he said the state government was committed to complete the remaining portion of fencing on the international border with Bangladesh at a fast pace.

It may be mentioned that a section of the NGOs has demanded to expedite the setting up entry and exit points to tackle influx, however, they still continued their demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP).

Speaking about the contentious Meghalaya-Assam boundary, the Governor said the disputed pockets along the inter-state boundary areas were being monitored continuously.

He added the administration at the district and local levels of both states had on many occasion resolved problems and diffused situations along the Assam-Meghalaya border.

He observed that in the last one year, the state witnessed a few agitations on issues of ILP, border dispute with Assam and setting up of entry and exit points. He lauded the efforts of the police department for effectively dealing with the agitations.
