SHILLONG:The Gauhati High Court has passed a stay order on the decision of the Dorbar Shnong Shella to ostracize one Kondro Ksanlah last year.
On being ostracized from the locality, Kondro took up the matter with the High Court recently claiming that the decision taken by the Dorbar Shnong Shella under the leadership of its secretary Tobias Tiewdop is against the rule of the Dorbar.
According to the Stay Order, it was mentioned that ostracization is violation of Article 19 (e) and 21 of the Constitution of India. This Stay Order passed by the High Court recently has prolonged the hearing till April.
It may be mentioned that the present situation of Shella has given rise to many problems between the two factions, one being led by Tiewdop and Ksanlah. The major instability in the functioning of the Dorbar was witnessed when around 69 members of the Dorbar were ostracized for opposing the decision to reinstate Tiewdop as the secretary.
In relation to this, many residents including the women folk and youth of the village have condemned the autocratic attitude of the secretary which is against the rule of the Shella Confederacy which was laid down since 1920.
“The decision to seek help from the court is not only security for myself but the other 69 ostracized members of the Dorbar and the residents of Shella from the tyranny of such local leaders”, Ksanlah told reporters here recently.
