SHILLONG: The Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills to nominate one additional District Magistrate within thirty days as member of the Shillong Cantonment Board to conduct an inquiry into the allegations of encroachment by two Ward members.

The High Court was hearing a complaint filed by one Pawan Sharma with the Shillong Cantonment Board relating to alleged illegal construction and encroachment by two elected ward members – Bimal Bajaj and Urmila Devi.

Soon after the complaint was lodged the Cantonment Board constituted an enquiry team consisting of three Board members including Magistrate C Kharkongor.

However, Kharkongor was subsequently transferred and the matter was kept pending by the Cantonment Board finally forcing the complainant Pawan Sharma to move the High Court.
