AIZAWL: The government of Mizoram has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation for building a strong statistical base in the State.
The memorandum was signed by Arvind Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Mizoram Chief Secretary Vanhela Pachuau on Saturday.
According to sources from the Government, the Union Ministry released Rs. 25.57 crore for implementing the Mizoram State Strategic Statistical Plan. The central govt will sanction Rs. 2459.50 lakh (96.18 %) and the Mizoram govt will spend Rs. 98 lakh (3.82 %) for this project/plan. Some of the points mentioned in the memorandum are Improving the Coordination and Management of Statistical Activities in the State and Development of Statistical Infrastructure; Human Resource Development; Development of Physical/Civil Infrastructure and Maintenance; Development of IT Infrastructure and other related Costs including maintenance and Improving Statistical Operations.
The long-term objective of the India Statistical Strengthening Project (ISSP) is to help in implementing the proposal of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) to “provide, within the decentralized structure of the system, reliable, timely and credible social and economic statistics to assist decision making within and outside the Government, stimulate research and promote informed debate relating to conditions affecting people’s life”.
