5894 vacancies in govt depts

SHILLONG: There are 5894 vacancies in state government offices and departments out of which 1,894 are lying with Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) and District Selection Committee (DSC).
As per a statement tabled by the chief minister in the Assembly on Thursday, the Legal Metrology department service rules are yet to be notified.
Similarly, vacant posts cannot be filled up as draft service rules are yet to be approved in the Revenue and Disaster Management (Director of Land Records and Survey) department.
Replying to a supplementary query during question hour by Congress MLA George Lyngdoh, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the MPSC and DSC have been conducting examinations for vacancies that arise in various departments. He assured to take action to fill up the vacancies at the earliest.
As per the statement, the number of vacancies in the office of Assistant Inspector General of Police is the highest at 1,962 followed by the Education Department with 1,370, Health and Family Affairs Department 329, Forest 252, Agriculture 243, Soil and Water Conservation 234, Home Guard and Civil Defence 227 and SAD (E) 206.
