SHILLONG: Congress MLA Himalaya Shangpliang on Thursday urged PHE Minister Samlin Malniang to set up two ring wells for every village pointing out that the villages have grown bigger and only one was not adequate.
Earlier, Malniang said that the department has sanctioned 49 ring wells in 43 villages in Mawsynram at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
Asked whether Rs 1 crore will be made available within the current financial year, Malniang said he would look into the matter.
As per the statement tabled by the minister on the status of ring well water supply schemes along the border villages in Mawsynram area, he said the number of ring wells that are non-functional is 38 while 50 are functioning and 88 were under construction.
The minister informed that the ring wells are not functioning due to very low yield. However, Shangpliang maintained that not a single ring well is functioning.
