Ban on use of plastic bags

 SHILLONG: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi District issued a Prohibitory Order on Monday banning use of plastic bags below 40 microns including packing gutkha, panmasala and tobacco in all forms in the entire district. This has been done in view of large scale use of plastic bags everywhere and disposal of the same in an unorganized manner resulting in ecological imbalance and environmental hazards.The DM reiterated that plastic products are discarded in a haphazard manner leading to clogging of drains and posing health hazards to the public.
