TURA: The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) has called off its ongoing indefinite strike which was called demanding the immediate release of their pending salaries. The teachers under the association had earlier given the state government a time frame of five days to fulfill their demand.

The decision to call off the strike comes following the assurance by Education Minister, Lakmen Rymbui in the Assembly on March 14 that the pending salaries of the SSA teachers would be released soon.

“Based on his promise in the floor of the house, we are calling off our indefinite strike and request all SSA teachers to resume their duties as usual,” the General Secretary of AMSSASTA, D S Lamare said.

The association has expressed appreciation to Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem for raising the issue of the SSA Teachers’ salary time and again. The association also thanked the Education Minister and the State Government for listening to the grievances of the teachers an urged that the matter is seriously looked into so that the teachers can get their salary each month or at least at an equal short interval of every two months.
