JOWAI: The All Jaintia Cement Transporters’ Association (AJCTA) has threatened to drag the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to the Supreme Court if it failed to shift the illegal toll plaza at 7th Mile at Ialong in West Jaintia Hills.
According to the organisation, the toll plaza is illegal as per Section 4.7 of the NHAI guidelines. “The toll plaza is situated near a petrol pump and a weighbridge, which are about 500 metre and 750 metre away, respectively, whereas as per the guidelines and norms of the NHAI, toll plaza should not be set within 1000 metre of a petrol pumps or a weighbridge.”
The organisation has written to the project director of NHAI in Shillong, but did not get any response. “If the authority fails to reply then we will approach the Apex Court,” said AJCTA president Balen Thubru.

No MV inspector
Meanwhile, AJCTA has expressed unhappiness over the absence of one of the Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI) at Jowai DTO office that has created inconvenience to car owners.
“The MVI was never in his office, we could not meet him when we need to renew our vehicle’s documents and on several occasions we have to pay delayed fines just because of the MVI absent from office,” stated a release here.
The organisation has urged the higher authority to take stringent action against the official for creating hurdles for the general public.
