SHILLONG: The second toll gate on the 102-km Jowai-Ratacherra road is now functional.
Earlier, the National  Highway Authority of India (NHAI) faced difficulties in constructing the toll pla-za at Ialong in West Jaintia Hills district since there were objections from a landowner. Though the project was completed in March last year, the authorities were facing land hurdles.
Officials said that the implementing agency will maintain the road for another 3 years as the maintenance period started last year.
Toll plazas are usually located on six lanes, but the one at Ialong will be on four lanes due to non-availability of land.
If there is requirement for any other utility service on the road, the company would construct it depending on the direction from the NHAI, an official said.
The road was built at a cost of Rs 683 crore by the NHAI. Sources said there is a proposal to upgrade the road to four-lane for work on DPR has begun.
