PREPAK militant arrested in Guwahati

Guwahati: A self styled ‘sergeant major’ of Manipur-based Peoples Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) was arrested here on Tuesday.

Senior superintendent of police Apurba Jibon Barua told PTI that the militant was picked up by the police from Dighalipukhuri area in the heart of the city at around 11 am following a tip-off. Investigation is on, he said, adding, the police believes that the PREPAK has hideouts in the city and its surrounding areas.

In Manipur, a United National Liberation Front (UNLF) was on Tuesday nabbed by troops.

Assam Rifles officials said at Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, Imphal West, troops of 37 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector and 18 SIKH of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched a joint operation and nabbed the UNLF cadre. (Agencies)
