SHILLONG: The Opposition NCP on Tuesday staged a walk-out from the Assembly after discovering that there is no allocation of funds in the tourism sector for Garo Hills as well as Jaintia Hills.

After an angry outburst during the general discussion on the State budget, the Opposition party refused to accept it and instead wanted the Chief Minister to present a new budget in the House.

All hell broke loose in the Assembly after the Opposition found that an amount of Rs 19.50 crore has been sanctioned for tourism sector but there was no allocation for the two districts.

“I cannot accept this budget and Chief Minister must take the budget back and present a new one,” Conrad Sangma said.

“The budget is incomplete as more than Rs 30 crore has not been budgeted properly,” NCP leader Conrad Sangma added.

The Opposition wanted a reply from Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on the spot to which the Dr Sangma responded “you will get a reply”. But the Sangma brothers continued to shout for an instant reply. Speaker intervened to say that the Chief Minister would furnish reply at the end of the debate. At this stage the Opposition left the House.
