SHILLONG/TURA: Congress candidate for Tura Lok Sabha seat Mukul Sangma has called for a united fight against the BJP and the NPP.
While welcoming three GHADC MDCs and other party members at Tura Congress Bhavan on Thursday, Mukul said the BJP is using other political parties, including the NPP in the North East to defeat the Congress as the BJP alone cannot ensure victory.
“BJP has vowed to introduce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill if voted to power despite the fact that people of the North East are fighting against it tooth and nail. No one should dictate us how to live, what to eat, wear and religion to follow like the BJP is doing to us,” said Mukul.
Targeting the NPP-led coalition in the state, the Congress candidate said all the political parties in the state, namely BJP, NPP, UDP, PDF and HSPDP are partners in the government even though they deny being so.
“Though they deny being with the BJP, their actions show that they are one and the same side of the coin,” cautioned Mukul as he called upon the public to join his fight against what he termed a “dictatorship” government in the state.
He also defended the implementation of agar and bamboo missions saying Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is blaming the MUA government without knowing the technicality and the value addition.
The three sitting MDCs of GHADC who joined the Congress are Tura Independent MDC Rupert M Sangma, Batabari MDC Mark Goera B Marak (Independent) and Jimberth Goera Marak (former GNC) of Amongpara.
District president of the NCP Hennyson K Sangma, NCP’s mahila secretary Koruna A Sangma and others also joined the Congress.
