SHILLONG: Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary on Wednesday has expressed concern over the rise in crime committed by the ‘Men in Uniform’, adding that “Violation of human rights in the name of one’s duty cannot be justified”.

Mooshahary was addressing the armed forces of the Assam Rifles on the occasion of the Investiture Ceremony to mark the 177th anniversary of the Assam Rifles at Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday.

“There have been cases when forces have shifted their focus of attention from serving the people to violating human rights”, the governor stated. Observing the rise in crime against the weak and downtrodden by the men in uniform in recent times, Mooshahary lamented that it has brought shame not only to the forces but to the state and the country as a whole.
