MAWKYRWAT: The KSU, South West Khasi Hills District, continued to crackdown drugs racket in Mawkyrwat area as they apprehended another six drug dealers and addicts from the locality on Sunday night.
General Secretary of the KSU, Mawkyrwat Circle, Rutherford Lyngdoh informed that the six dealers and addicts were detained after the KSU along with Seng Samla Shnong Nonglang laid a trap.
“At first, we caught two addicts identified as Fairly Donald Sangma and Michael James Lyngdoh, who confessed that they received the substance from Stevenson Tongwah of Nonglang village,” Lyngdoh said.
He further said that after getting information, they immediately informed the police as well as the District Administration around 6.30 pm and set up a trap to catch the smugglers from Nonglang village but unfortunately it took more than 4 hours for the police from Mawkyrwat to reach Nonglang when the distance is only 2-3 kms.
“Yes we know that the police caught the drugs from the residence of Tongwah in Nonglang, but we don’t know what action has been taken by the police in this matter,” Lyngdoh said while adding that the KSU later handed over another three drug addicts identified as Michael Nongsiej, Hiswillbedone Tongwah and Ricky Paul Snaitang to the police.
KSU condemns police
Irked by police personnel reaching the spot after more than 4 hours, the KSU came down heavily on the department and the district administration and condemned their negligence.
“This shows the irresponsibility on the part of the police department and district administration and if this is how things work, it will further encourage the drug dealers in Mawkyrwat area to continue with their work and we feel that this kind of attitude should be condemned,” Lyngdoh said.
Meanwhile, the KSU expressed gratefulness to the members of the Seng Samla Shnong Nonglang, Seng Samla Shnong Mawkyrwat and village leaders of Nonglang village for taking this issue seriously.
“We also urged upon the Seng Longkmie, VDP, Seng Samla Shnong various NGOs to come forward and work together so that the evil of drug abuse can be eradicated from Mawkyrwat area,” he said.
