SHILLONG: The Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), P N Syiem, on Monday directed the Executive Committee (EC) to be ready with answers and to avoid saying “require notice”.
Syiem took note when Deputy CEM and Executive Member (EM) in charge of Elaka, Pyniaid Sing Syiem was frequently saying “require notice” when opposition Congress members questioned him over the issue of participation of traditional heads in politics during the question hour of the Budget session.
“The Executive Committee should try to answer all the questions,” he said adding that the EMs should thoroughly read the Acts and Rules to ensure that the House is run in an orderly manner.
At the same time, Syiem also asked the opposition members to stick to specifics while raising questions.
The Chairman also directed the opposition members to ask only three supplementary queries each.
To this, Congress MDC Ronnie Lyngdoh said Rule 60 (b) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951 should be amended to allow members to ask 5 supplementary questions instead of three.
“For now, will stick to the rules,” Syiem said.
