GUWAHATI:  Congress candidate and sitting MP, Sushmita Dev and BJP candidate Rajdeep Roy filed their nomination papers on Tuesday to contest the forthcoming general election from Silchar Parliamentary Constituency.

Hundreds of slogan-shouting  and flags waving supporters of both the candidates accompanied them on their way to file nomination papers in Deputy Commissioner’s office in Silchar bringing the vehicular traffic in the south Assam town to a grinding halt.

As both these candidates of national political parties along with their supporters reached the DC office almost at the same time, security personnel were having a tough time to keep the situation under control.

Dr Rajdeep Roy was the first to enter the conference hall of the DC office and submit his nomination amid lots of hue and cry by Congress party supporters.

Sushmita Dev was the next to hand over her nomination papers to deputy commissioner of Cachar and returning officer for Silchar Lok Sabha seat, Laya Madduri.
