GUWAHATI: Fifty-six nomination papers were found valid for the Phase-II Lok Sabha election in Assam at the completion of the process on scrutiny on Wednesday, according to Election Commission office here.
Phase-II election will be held in Parliamentary Constituencies of Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldai, Nowgong and Autonomous District (ST) in the state on April 18.
All the 19 nomination papers were found valid in Karimganj Constituency while all the 14 were found correct in Silchar Constituency.
Out of the six nomination papers filed in Autonomous District (ST) Constituency, the nomination papers of NPP aspirant Dewan Rongpi was found invalid during the scrutiny.
Two out of the total 13 nomination papers were found invalid in Mangaldai Constituency. The two rejected nomination papers were of Ratul Ahmed of Republican Party of India (A) and Bhupen Chandra Das of Purbanchal Janata Party (Secular).
Out of the total eight nomination papers filed in Nowgong Constituency, the one filed by Golapi Saikia of Voter’s Party International (VPI) was rejected during the scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the Congress Party has breathed a sigh of relief as the nomination of its candidate, Anil Borgohain, which was initially adjourned, was cleared on Wednesday enabling him to contest the election in the first phase from Lakhimpur Constituency on April 11.
