EC’s special observers for Tripura, Mizoram

Agartala: The Election Commission has appointed Special Central Police Observers for Tripura, Mizoram, West Bengal and Jharkhand, an official said here on Wednesday.
An official of the Tripura Election Department said that former Director General of Manipur Police Mrinal Kanti Das has been appointed by the Election Commission as Special Central Police Observer for Tripura and Mizoram.
“The Special Central Police Observer would monitor and guide the authority about the deployment of central armed forces and state forces during the Lok Sabha elections,” the official added.
Das, a 1977 batch Manipur-Tripura cadre IPS officer, relinquished the Manipur police chief’s post in November 2013.
The official also said that former Director General of Border Security Force K. K. Sharma has been appointed by the poll panel as Special Central Police Observer for West Bengal and Jharkhand.
Sharma, a 1982 batch Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, retired from service in September last year. (IANS)
