Assam, M’laya DCs meet at Langpih on LS polls

GUWAHATI: Assam and Meghalaya have agreed to maintain status quo along the border areas ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in both the states next month.
The deputy commissioners of West Khasi Hills and Kamrup districts along with police officials of the two districts met at Langpih, a sensitive border village, on Wednesday and assured to facilitate smooth passage of the elections in both the states.
Speaking to The Shillong Times later, Kamrup deputy commissioner, Kamal Kumar Baishya said the district officials had a fruitful interaction in regard to smooth conduct of the polls.
“Both the states agreed to maintain status quo on the border and that polling stations of Assam and Meghalaya are not set up in either states. In regard to the issues that exist, it was agreed they would be discussed and addressed after the elections. We also shared information to ensure free and fair elections in the states,” Baishya said.
He further said that the West Khasi district administration requested that the voters be allowed smooth passage to the polling centres in Meghalaya through Assam.
Meghalaya and Assam goes to polls on April 11.
