SHILLONG: It is very troubling to know that many people especially tourists are misled into believing that Shillong Peak View Point is the highest point in the state.
This is not true as the actual highest point is at the peak of Lum Shillong which stands at 1,965 metres above sea level.
Lum Shillong can be seen on the way to Shillong Peak View Point, just before entering the premises of the Indian Air Force base.
Unlike Shillong Peak View Point, the peak at Lum Shillong does not have any man made infrastructure.
There are no shops or view points at the top of the peak.
However, there are Monoliths which have been set up by the Khasis and a place where divinations and other rituals are held by them from time to time.
One can also see the surrounding areas consisting of agricultural fields, a partial view of the city and the lush green hills.
