16 VCs of NE India to take part in global convention at Sylhet

GUWAHATI: Sixteen Vice Chancellors from Central, State, private universities as well as Directors of NITs from the North East India are going to Sylhet on April 5 to participate in the ‘International Convention of Vice Chancellors- 2019’ to be held on April 6 next.

The main purpose of the convention is to share the scope of collaboration in teaching, research and innovation between the two countries. It is organised by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh under the patronage of University Grant Commission, Bangladesh in association with University of Science & Technology Meghalaya, according to a communiqué issued by the USTM.

Convention will be attended by 400 vice chancellors, directors, top researcher’s from both countries and will be graced by Dr Dipu Moni, Education Minister, Peoples republic of Bangladesh and Prof A Mannan, UGC Chairman of Bangladesh along with other ministers.

The Convention is the outcome of a Panel Discussion on ‘Bilateral Collaboration Opportunities in the Field of Higher Education between Bangladesh and North East India’ organised by USTM in association with High Commission Bangladesh at Guwahati in October last year.

Those VCs and Directors who have confirmed  from the North East India includes Dr Mridul Hazarika, VC, Gauhati University,  Prof Vinod Kumar Jain, VC, Tezpur University; Prof. Saket Kushwaha, VC, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh; Prof. M. Premjit Singh, VC, Central Agricultural University, Manipur, Prof. G. Singaiah, Pro VC, North East Hill University, Meghalaya; Prof. K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao, VC, Mizoram University; Prof. Bhabesh Ch. Goswami, VC, Cotton University; Dr. Dhiraj Bora, VC, Assam Science and Technology University, Assam; Prof. (Dr.) J. S. Patil, VC, National Law University, Assam; Prof (Dr) PK Goswami, VC, University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya; Prof. K.K. Deka, VC, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva Viswavidyalaya, Assam; Prof Vincent T. Darlong, VC, Martin Luthar Christian University, Meghalaya; Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, Director NIT Manipur; Prof (Dr) Alaka Sarma, Director, International Centre for Gandhian Studies, Meghalaya; Prof. Rajat Gupta, Director, NIT, Mizoram; Prof N C Talukdar, Director, IASST, Assam. Registrars, Deans, Directors and OSDs of few universities are also accompanying their Vice Chancellors.
