SHILLONG: Former MLA and Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Paul Lyngdoh has urged people to rediscover themselves in the moments of silence.

Lyngdoh while releasing a collection of poems tilted, “The Silence Song” written by an advocate, Lurshaphang Shongwan here on Saturday said that the present life of the people is hectic as they are too busy in pursuing material needs and misses the essence of life that can be acquired only during the moments of silence.

Lyngdoh who is also a  poet said people should not be over burdened with daily work only, as there are other aspects of life that are  vital to human existence and writing poems is one of them. “What I speak as a politician makes news and its durability is only for week or a month, whereas, poems have the quality of immortality”, he said.

He also said the experiences, feeling and emotions written in beautiful words, should be published in the book form, otherwise, they may face the danger of being forgotten.

On the other hand, the author of the book, “The Silent Songs”, Lurshaphrang Shongwan said that he developed his love for poetry since his childhood days. “I love to write poems and also glad that these poems of mine have been published so that the people of Meghalaya will know my inner thoughts and feelings”, Shongwan said, adding that he hopes to inspire others too.

The book has poems written on love, social issues, environment, family and motivation.
