SHILLONG: The state Congress on Monday said that the hue and cry raised by BJP over AICC president Rahul Gandhi contesting Lok Sabha elections from the two seats of Wayanad in Kerala and Amethi in Uttar Pradesh is a non-issue.
Speaking to newsmen here, Opposition chief whip and Congress leader PT Sawkmie said that the BJP never raised an issue when its national president Amit Shah decided to contest in the safe seat of Gandhinagar, from where LK Advani contested for 25 years.
He said that Amit Shah has chosen Gandhinagar since he knows that he will not lose the election from the constituency which was earlier represented by a senior leader like LK Advani for long.
“When Amit Shah contests from safe seat, they don’t raise any issue,” he said.
Sawkmie also expressed confidence that the party will come back to power at the Centre and will run the country well.
