NEHU sensitizes villagers on environmental issues

TURA: To sensitize the villagers about environmental issues and problems, the Department of Education from NEHU’s  Tura campus organised a two day workshop and community service under the caption “Environmental issues and problems: A local perspective for Sustainable Development” at Bolmagre village of Rongram Block on the 25th and 26th of March.

The event was also aimed at documenting traditional ecological knowledge of the village elders.

The community service, flagged off by the Pro-Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Tura Campus, Prof. G Singaiah, included community service in the village under the stewardship of department head, Prof. Nikme Ch Momin, and subsequently two day training programme to skill the farmers of the neighbouring villages on post harvest management was also held on 28th and 29th.

As many as 78 farmers participated in the training programme that included entrepreneurship skills and the participants, under the guidance of Prof. C P Suresh of NEHU, were provided with training on preservation techniques and processing methodology for jam, jelly, squash and other beverages.
