Rs 6.4 lakhs seized in Hallidayganj in WGH

TURA: Election teams during routine ‘naka’ checking near the village of Hallidayganj in West Garo Hills district on Saturday seized money to the tune of Rs 6.4 lakhs from two different individuals in the run up to the April 11th elections for the Tura Parliamentary seat and the Selsella by-election which are taking place simultaneously.

Flying Squad teams on duty under the Hallidayganj police station intercepted the amount from two individuals identified as Binoy Gopal Saha and another Foridul Sheikh after they failed to provide documents to substantiate their claim the money was meant for purposes other than election related.

From Seikh an amount of Rs. 1.60 lakh was recovered and from Saha Rs. 4.80 lakh.

The money has been confiscated and brought to Tura where it has been kept sealed in the Tura treasure strong room.

“We have asked them to show proof of ownership but none have come forward till now,” confirmed Returning Officer, Ram Singh on the seizure.
