NONGSTOIN: On Monday at around 11.30 am, members of Khasi Student Union under the leadership of president KSU Nongstoin circle, John Milton Wahlang, conducted a surprise check on office attendance at various offices under Nongstoin town.
The surprise check was undertaken as there have been complaints from the public on irregular office attendance of government officers and staff.
During the visit KSU found that the Superintendent of Engineer PWD and none of the staff other than the Chowkidar was present at the time of their visit to the office. They also visited the offices of District Forest, Fishery and Nongstoin Block office and to their utter surprise found that no officer/staff attended the office well on time.
The KSU stated that most of the officers/staffs of Nongstoin town who were from Shillong were absent from office on the pretext of being sick, traffic jam and having family problems. Milton told this scribe on Monday that it is not the first time it has been found that the government servants take Mondays as district holiday.The union has given a stern warning to all the head of every department to attend well to their duties.
