SHILLONG: Over 600 runners participated in The Shillong 10K, the city’s first chip-timed event held on Saturday. The event organised at Crinoline swimming pool was organised by the RUNMeghalaya along with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Batsrang Sangma from Dadenggre in West Garo Hills won the men’s open (17-34 years) category followed by Prince Raj Mishra from Assam and Ribet Dkhar from Sabahmuswang in Jaintia Hills.
In the women’s open (17-34 years) category, Pynhun Shullet from Jaintia Hills came first while Bandasharai Marwein from Mawkyrwat came second and Dakahi Kyndait also from Jaintia Hills came third.
In the junior (12-16 years) boys category Shainingstar Marwein came first and was followed by Defenstar Pakem and Dabit Dkhar, respectively, while in the girls’ category, Marqueenless Ramsiej, Lesmimery Lyngkhoi and Balasiewdor Pathaw took the top three positions.
In the senior (35-49 years) male category, Arbet Nonglang, Garrymoore Kharlor and Towanki Lyngdoh won the top three positions. The female category was won by Snora Lyngkhoi, Tshering Bhutia and Daphika Pakyntein.
The veteran’s (above 50 years) category was won by Kedrik Kharpor. Worning Lyngkhoi and Hector Marbaniang came second and third, respectively. The women’s veteran category was won by Kmoin Wahlang. Melina Nonglang and Trissina Wanniang came second and third, respectively.
The RunMeghalaya has lauded the efforts of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs for sponsorship, DC’s office for permission, SP and SP Traffic for help, PWD for permission and CE office for venue, Eldorado Guesthouse for bib collection, Bharat Scouts and Guides for providing volunteers and the Meghalaya Swimming Association for their efforts in making the event successful.
