NONGPOH: The Sub-Divisional Officer of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), Nongpoh Distribution, on Sunday clarified that allegation against the department of denying help to an electrocuted child is false.
Speaking to media persons, the officer, K Manih, said “Though I have not received any formal complaint from the victim’s family yet I have submitted my report to the higher authority for providing help to the electrocuted child based on the letter submitted by the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Northern Region, and the village Dorbar of Nongpoh.”
Manih said he had done his part and it was now up to the higher authority of the corporation to provide financial assistance to the victim. He, however, said that it is not possible for the victim’s family to get the financial assistance right away since there is a procedure to be followed.
Earlier, on February 24, three-year-old Remark Lyngdoh received grievous injuries after he was electrocuted and lost one of his arms while entering the fenced area of a 11/.4 KV sub-station located at Nongpoh.
HNYF, Northern Region, leader Marcus Marten said allegations that the NGO and the MeECL had denied help to the victim are baseless. “We have submitted a complaint to the MeECL and they have done their level best to initiate financial assistance to victim.”
